Who said the holidays have to be stressful? We agree that entertaining, parties, gift shopping, and travelling can catch up with you, leaving you feeling a tad overwhelmed – to the say the least. But it doesn’t have to be that way, and we have a strategy to help your get through the holiday season feeling relaxed and enjoying family, friends and festivities.
PLAN AHEAD.
Don’t feel like you have to attend every party you are invited to. Spreading yourself too thin is likely to result in added stress. When you are celebrating, look for ways to incorporate healthy food into your holiday meals. Be mindful of plate size and beverage contents. Avoid triggers for overindulging, such as standing beside the appetizer table at your holiday party. Also, eat a light snack like raw vegetables before heading to a party – you’ll be less likely to over-indulge.
DO YOGA.
If you’re going to over-indulge in anything this holiday season, why not have it be exercise and relaxation? You can enjoy both through practicing yoga, an exercise known for relieving stress while increasing flexibility and balance. Make yoga a part of your routine this season. Our studio is open 7 days a week and drop-ins are more than welcome!
BRING A RAW, HEALTHY DISH.
When contributing a dish for your holiday gathering, why not prepare something deliciously raw? This will not only keep you to your raw diet, but it will also give you the opportunity to educate family and friends on the benefits of eating raw. When surveying the holiday feast, don’t feel like you need to sample every dish. Pick and choose your favorites.
LIMIT ALCOHOL INTAKE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER (AND JUICE!).
Alcohol can decrease inhibitions and provoke overeating. Not to mention, alcoholic beverages are full of sugar. Sip your drink slowly, and consider mixing it with water – or even better, mix with a cold-pressed juice.
Making smart and healthy decisions this holiday season is the best way to bring joy into your day. Your body and mind will thank you later.
